Fast Food – What Should You Be Eating?
Posted on June 30th, 2009 in Food and Drink | No Comments »
Fast food is not good for you. Even the healthiest fast food can easily be outdone by preparing some fast and easy meals you can take with you wherever you go. If you do find yourself inside a fast food restaurant, should you eat or not?
Never go without eating. It’s actually much worse to skip a meal than to make a good choice at a fast food restaurant. Simply make a good choice, and you’ll be okay.
The first step you should take is to always plan ahead. If you’re going to spend the day away from home, take some time the day before to get yourself some meals ready to take with you. If you didn’t already know, you should be eating a full meal once every 3 hours or so. Short explanation: Protein only lasts around 3 hours in your body and your body needs protein to build muscle.
When I spend the day away from home, I might take a few plastic shaker bottles with me. I fill them with protein and ground oats (simply stick some quaker oats in a coffee grinder). I then fill a few baggies with walnuts, almonds, and/or peanuts.
Don’t forget the veggies too! I quickly cut up some raw veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, green peppers, red peppers, carrots, and cucumbers. Add the veggies and you just can’t get a better muscle building and fat burning meal.
If, for some reason, you didn’t plan ahead, you’ve got to make good choices when you find yourself ordering food at a fast food restaurant. What would you order if you were standing in a McDonald’s right now? You wouldn’t order french fries, a milk shake, an apple pie, a hamburger, or a fried chicken sandwich. So what would you order?
The best choice would be a grilled chicken salad with lots of vegetables and about a half pack of ranch dressing. Don’t get extra packs of ranch and pile it on your salad. And always drink water with your meals and nothing else. A no calorie lemonade is good too.
If you know you’re going to be eating fast food and have no other choice, get nutrition facts for that restaurant and make a good choice before you go. Then, you won’t be tempted to order anything else. It’s actually better to check nutrition facts and make yourself a little list at what you can have from certain fast food restaurants. Make sure what you choose fits your meal plan.
I personally went several years without eating ANY fast food at all, and I can tell you that I felt much better and lost lots and lots of body fat during that time. Now, just the thought of fast food makes me sick. Once you’re accustomed to eating healthy, the grease simply makes you sick. Eating healthy tastes great and feels great.
When you eat healthy foods, you WILL have higher energy levels for lifting weights. You’ll create the OPTIMAL muscle building and fat burning environment. Your metabolism will be higher than ever. And your body will reward you with higher levels of muscle mass and lower levels of body fat.
Is Subway good for you? It’s better than most fast food places, but you can do much better by preparing some quick meals at home. A chicken salad filled with different veggies and a small amount of dressing isn’t a bad choice from Subway. Stay away from the rest of the stuff.
It’s much easier and cheaper to prepare some quick meals at home. You can prepare most meals in much less time than it takes you to go through a drive through line or wait in a line inside a restaurant. With some planning, you can stop eating unhealthy foods, start eating healthy, and building more muscle and burning more fat.

Being the host of a party, whether it is for a wedding, a birthday, or an anniversary is stressful. There are hundreds of things you need to do and with so many responsibilities it is a good idea to get some help. There is no doubt that the most stressful part of planning a party is the food. With so many mouths to feed you can become quite overwhelmed with all the choices and hassle that goes into preparing it all. Well, here is an idea. Instead of doing it all yourself, rather get party caterers in Essex to reduce the pressure and let you simmer (excuse the pun!).
These professionals will make sure that your party is a success, and all you have to do is make sure that you give them some information. There are so many benefits to using party catering services including the food itself. If you get friends and family to help you make food, guaranteed that it will not turn out as great. Some of it might not turn up at all. Rather make sure that there is excellent food and that there is enough of it by using a party caterer.
Another advantage of having a catering company help you is that you can have any foods like. If you are planning a Greek party, you can ask for traditional Greek foods, and viola, it will be done. The cuisine is done to perfect no matter what the theme or the occasion.
The biggest benefit to you as the host, will be the time it saves you. It is also less hassle and you don’t have to worry about a thing. They will arrive with everything prepared, plate it, set it all out, and do everything that you have asked them to do. It is just so easy.
After you have looked at all the benefits, you might be wondering about the price. While hiring professional party caterers in Essex might be a bit more costly, this will far outweigh the stress of doing everything yourself. It will save you time definitely, and a lot of grey hairs. You also don’t have to clean up after the party, as they will do that all for you.

Do I Have Milk Allergy?
Posted on June 28th, 2009 in Food and Drink | No Comments »
Cow’s milk is the most common allergy-causing foods in kids, and it’s the most important reason of allergic reactions in quite young children.
Milk allergy affects in the region of 2 percent to 3 percent of children worldwide, and its symptoms and signs can be difficult enough to cause suffering not merely for an allergic kid, but also for the child’s mother and father. However the fine news is that the majority of kids grow out of a milk allergy by the age 2 or 3.
Allergic reactions typically occur a couple of minutes to a few hours after you consume milk ” but now and again it can be days before symptoms and sign occur. Signs and symptoms go from mild to awful and might include wheezing, vomiting, hives and digestive problems. Very rarely, milk allergy can cause anaphylaxis – a severe, life-threatening reaction.
Milk Allergy Symptoms
Three types of milk correlated allergy symptoms have been acknowledged:
1. Symptoms begin swiftly following ingesting cow’s milk. Responses primarily affect the skin, triggering hives and/or eczema.
2. Symptoms start some hours after consuming cow’s milk. Symptoms of this type are mainly diarrhea and vomiting.
3. Symptoms set off more than twenty hours after eating/drinking. The central symptom for this type is diarrhea.
Symptoms of milk allergy can affect the skin, causing rashes or hives; the digestive tract, causing bloating and diarrhea, and the respiratory system, causing runny nose and asthma.
Here is a more complete listing of symptoms:
* vomiting
* hyperactive behavior
* diarrhea
* asthma
* hives
* runny nose
* rashes
* stuffy nose
* ear infections
* bloating
* watery eyes
* eczema
* allergic shiners (black around the eyes)
* recurrent bronchitis
* failure to thrive
The listed symptoms are not restricted to people suffering from milk allergy. Once you get to know food allergy symptoms, you will become aware of that several foods share a variety of familiar symptoms, such as: bloating, rash, and runny nose.
What is the Difference of Milk allergy and Milk Intolerance?
It is central to differentiate a real milk allergy from milk protein intolerance or lactose intolerance. Unlike a milk allergy, intolerance doesn’t involve the immune system. Milk intolerance triggers different symptoms and need dissimilar treatment than does a true milk allergy. Ordinary signs and symptoms of milk protein intolerance or lactose intolerance include digestive problems, such as bloating, gas or diarrhea, after consuming milk.
Milk Allergy Prevention and Cure
The only way to prevent an allergic reaction is to avoid milk and milk proteins altogether. This can be tricky, as milk is a widespread food ingredient. Despite your best efforts, you or your child may still come into contact with milk.
Medications, such as antihistamines, may reduce signs and symptoms of a milk allergy. These drugs can be taken after exposure to milk to control an allergic reaction and help relieve discomfort. If you or your child has a critical allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), you may need an emergency injection of epinephrine (adrenaline) and a trip to the emergency room.
If you’re at risk of having a dangerous reaction, you or your child may need to carry injectable epinephrine (such as an EpiPen) at all times.

Acai Berry Recipes Inspired by Rachel Ray
Posted on June 26th, 2009 in Food and Drink | No Comments »
I just saw the Rachel Ray acai berry show, and since Rachel Ray has such spectacular recipe ideas, I was a little disappointed that she didn’t try to incorporate acai berry juice into a fun recipe. Since then I have tried a number of acai berry juices, which are fine on their own, but I thought that it was time that I try to experiment and see if I could create some interesting acai berry recipes.
My most popular dish at home is a baked chicken breast with a spicy citrus marinade, so I thought perhaps I could invent a chicken dish with acai berry juice substituted in for one of the citrus juices I normally use. As long as I kept my marinade time the same as usual (at least 6 hours in the refrigerator), I thought I couldn’t go wrong trying out a citrus acai marinade.
I start by halving the chicken breasts because I find that being able to cook smaller pieces for less time on the barbeque decreases the chance that I will overcook or dry out the meat. Add all the chicken to a glass bowl, and add cold pressed olive oil, some ground sea salt, ground white pepper, minced garlic, acai berry juice, and lime juice as the citrus flavor. I thought the sour lime would balance the sweetness of the acai berry juice. As it turns out, the chicken turned out quite well, but not quite as good as by normal marinade. I also doubted that very much of the acai goodness made it into the chicken, as most of the sauce is burned off or dripped in the bar-b-q any way.
So my next recipe was a variation on another favorite of mine, and I hoped it would turn out better than the chicken experiment. In fact it did meet with very positive reviews. This is my own version of acai berry frozen yogurt. Mix acai berry juice with a non-flavored low fat yogurt. Then set a strainer and cheese cloth in a bowl, pour through the yogurt, put it in the fridge and let it drain through the yogurt for a day. Once the yogurt has drained, you are left with a cream cheese like mixture, which in fact is quite good as a spread or dip at this point.
So once the yogurt and acai berry mixture has been mixed and whipped, put it in a Tupperware and freeze it for a minimum of 6 hours. Once it is frozen to your taste – some people prefer just a chilled version, others like really hard frozen yogurt – serve, and enjoy! This recipe so far is the favorite, and versatile as well. You can use it as a non-frozen bagel spread, or throw it in the freezer for a frozen version perfect for a hot summer day.
The last and most obvious recipe was an acai berry smoothie. I added ice, two frozen bananas, some plain low fat yogurt, and 1.5 cups of acai berry juice to the blender. Predictably, it was excellent. Smoothie recipes are almost fool proof. Don’t forget to add a little wheat germ to smoothies to add some invisible protein and fibre to your smoothie recipes.
With a little imagination acai can be incorporated into many different recipes. Without much thought I was able to create a main course, desert and a smoothie. Although Rachel Ray acai berry recipes do not seem to currently exist I will continue looking and in the meantime I will be creating and writing about my own recipes.

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe Play
Posted on June 25th, 2009 in Food and Drink | No Comments »
This story had been played at various theatres and musicals all over the world. It is about an epic story between the battle between good and evil in the form of the Lion and the witch. This is probably one of the most loved children’s novel of my time. The story was written by CS Lewis way back at the 1950′s just as the birth of rock and roll. Between these battles the children came into play known as the children of Adam and Eve. The children played certain important roles in the winning of good versus evil. It actually had this review of biblical context between the lines of its story.
Which can actually seen to be true. The resurrection of the lion and the claiming of the witch over the traitor can be seen in biblical accounts and catechism. It is like the saving of Mankind by Jesus represented by the lion and saving us from the bonds of evil. It garnered massive popularity that up to now it is still the most loved, and well read novels of all time.
I discovered this book and read it over and over again as a child I even had version of it let alone played imaginary Narnia battle with my friends. I am able to inherit my mom’s fondness in reading novels. She is a certified bookworm and you can just imagine all those books that are lying in our house. They joy of living it and playing roles with it has been part of my childhood. It was able to induced some good values in me
This coming August of 2009 Plays of this wonderful novel will be shown. Come and visit us with you family and loved one and enjoy a happy and entertaining time.

Vegetable Juicing Is Important
Posted on June 24th, 2009 in Food and Drink | No Comments »
Vegetable juicing has much the same benefits as juicing fruit with key differences. It’s important to vary your juicing recipe to include a wide range of ingredients. Constantly look for new mixed juicer recipes and try to notice fruits at your local market that you’ve never tried before.
One of the ways juicing helps a lot of people are where the texture or particular taste is unappealing. While I always believed, just as you acquire a taste the same is true in reverse. Use juicing as training wheels to eating vegetables.
The primary reason vegetables juicing is recommended over fruit juicing is because of the high levels of sugar in fruits. For some people who must watch their sugar levels fruit juicing adds too much sugar into their daily intake. Fruits also lack chlorophyll which is a reason for anyone to consume lots of green.
Chlorophyll provides many health benefits and is a very important compound to promoting the well being of the body. It serves as a cleanser, antiseptic, cell stimulator, cell rejuvenator, and help in the building process of red blood cells. To plants chlorophyll serves key functions. For one it makes the plant green and that’s all we care to know really, other than its good for you.
The true benefit of chlorophyll is that it helps the blood. All the cleaning and antiseptic stuff is what the blood is suppose to do. Chlorophyll, by being so similar to hemoglobin, the part of the blood that carries oxygen and is what you are really benefiting, increases the amount of hemoglobin making your blood healthier and more effective. The body can convert chlorophyll to make hemoglobin and that makes the blood better at doing what it does.
The number of benefits from consuming massive amounts of chlorophyll has been increasing with new discoveries. The most obvious ones include increase in blood count, stabilization of sugar levels in the blood, and relief of gastric ulcers. There are also detoxifying and cleansing effects as a result of consuming chlorophyll.
So where does the chlorophyll come from? We know it is in vegetables, and we know that it is what makes vegetables green. So if we just eat green vegetables we will be consuming lots of chlorophyll. To get greater amounts of green in faster time is by consuming foods richest in chlorophyll. These are alfalfa, barley grass, chlorella, spirulina, and wheatgrass.
Of the mentioned, chlorella is important for another reason. Chlorella contains high levels of vitamin B12 that is often found in animal products, and rarely in other vegetables. Some vegetarians get in trouble from a lack of B12 when it is easy to obtain chlorella tablets manufactured specifically for that purpose. Crush a tablet and mix it into your juice. Yummy.

Play & Learn Story time at Fairfield
Posted on June 23rd, 2009 in Food and Drink | No Comments »
Kids, they are the best sample of hyperactivity. Kids seem to be always high on energy, and hungry for learning new things. They love to play and do experimental stuffs. Contrary to popular belief, Kids are not that hard to handle at all. Kids for me are little explorers, which is the reason why they never stop moving. They are never contented on what they see they have to look and touch a thing to make them feel fulfilled and accomplished. I consider my kids as my battery and reason for survival.
Kids are Gods gift to us, it is our duty to feed their minds and look after them as they learn to face the battle of daily routine. Being a parent doesn’t end, it will be our lifelong job to look after our kids, what they’ll become in life would be purely the reflection of what we have instilled in them. Spending quality time with kids is strongly encouraged, a simple hug means a lot to them.
At the Story time event the facilitators are very much talented up to the point that they often changed their voice intonation to mimic the different characters. Kids will definitely enjoy attending this event. At Fairfield, the Play & Learn Story time is a must see event especially for parents and families who have little tots with them. It is an entirely a brand new event of learning for them because they get to listen to wonderful stories made just for kids.
For the safety of the kids and for everyone’s concern, kids are required to attend the event with their parents or guardians. Also, the guardians are not allowed to enter the story grounds because they are only allotted for the kids.
A certain entrance fee is required for the kids to pay at the entrance gate.

Interesting Legends On Purple Clay Teapots
Posted on June 22nd, 2009 in Food and Drink | No Comments »
Some interesting Chinese stories related to purple clay teapots have been told for hundreds of years. Here are several that tell us something about finding purple clay, and how much purple clay teapots mean to some fanatical collectors.
The discovery of purple clay
A long time ago in a small town named Yixing in southeastern China, the local villagers farmed every day. On their spare time, they made bowls and jugs for daily use. In this way, they led a simple and ordinary life.
One day out of nowhere, an eccentric monk appeared. He went about and exclaimed, “Profitable clay! Profitable clay!” “What is he getting at?” the villagers wondered, and looked at the monk in confusion. The monk went on to cry, “You people can be rich!” The villagers thought he must be crazy. After a little, the monk stopped shouting and began to run away.
One elderly villager was so curious that he followed the monk. When they went to Mt. Huanglong (Yellow Dragon) in Yixing, the monk disappeared suddenly. The elder looked about for him, but all he could find were some newly-opened caves. Looking inside the caves, he found multicolored pottery clay.
Now the old man understood what the monk had said, so he brought some of the clay out of the cave. He tried to make some pottery. After firing, the pottery gave him a big surprise. They were in purple, yellow, and green. “Oh, I have never seen pottery with these colors,” the old man murmured. Then he showed the pottery to his friends. They were pleasantly surprised, and called the material ‘purple clay.’
A panhandler keeps his purple clay teapot
Once upon a time, there was a rich man who particularly enjoyed drinking tea. No matter who came to his home for tea, rich or poor, he would treat them well.
On one occasion, a pauper turned up. He asked for nothing but a cup of tea. A servant prepared one and passed to him. The pauper glanced at the tea, and complained that it was not very tasty.
The servant realized that the beggar knew something about tea, so he promptly changed it to another kind of leaves. The beggar smelled it, and said, “This tea is good, but the water is not good. Only spring water from the mountains is suitable.”
“This guy seems to be a tea expert!” the butler murmured, and once again brewed a pot, this time with mountain water. This time, the panhandler took one sip of the tea, and remarked, “The mountain spring is good, but the firewood is not good enough. Hearing these words, the valet wondered is this a real panhandler? He quickly took in some of the best firewood, brewed one more time, and then sent for the landlord to deal with this eccentric visitor.
When the tea was ready, the rich man and the beggar drank a cup of it together. Then the beggar remarked, “Well, this time the tea leaves, water, firewood and fire are good, but the pot is not good.” “This is the best pot I have,” the rich man replied.
Then, the pauper pulled out an elegant purple clay teapot shining with natural gloss, and told the servant, “Please brew again with this pot.” Guess what? The tea turned out to be perfectly good this time! The rich man hungered for this pot so much that he offered at once to buy it.
Saying nothing at all, the panhandler picked up his belongings and was about to go away. The landlord stood in the way at once, offered in a high voice, “I want to exchange half my house and property for that teapot.” The panhandler did not reply, and just tried to leave. The landlord grew so anxious that he raised his pitch again, “All right, my entire house and property, ok?” Recognizing how much the landlord loves a good purple clay teapot, the panhandler smiled and said, “Well, I used to be wealthier than you, but now I have lost everything except this pot, and there’s no way I’ll trade it for anything.”
A purple clay teapot equals a maid’s life?
In the old days, there was a magistrate who was crazy about collecting and admiring purple clay teapots. At that time, the most famous potter was nicknamed Big Shot. The magistrate had a teapot made by Big Shot, and he thought it was a rare treasure.
Once at a tea party, a maidservant was serving tea to the administrator and his friends. All of a sudden, an accident took place. The cherished purple clay teapot accidentally slipped from the maidservant’s hand, and broke into pieces. The administrator hit the ceiling, and wanted to get reimbursed by taking the frightened girl’s life.
When the potter heard this news, he picked up a dozen of his purple clay teapots and hurried to the magistrate’s residence. The master potter made a suggestion to the magistrate, “Pick one of my best teapots and let the servant girl go.”
The official was thrilled with the offer. He chose the one that was the most appealing to him, and then let the maid go.
After that, however, the magistrate said, “Could you sell the other teapots to me as well?” The master potter didn’t reply, but with a sweep of his shoulder pole broke all the remaining pots into pieces.
The magistrate was stupefied, and felt deeply regretful. He asked why the master potter would rather break the pots than sell them to him. The potter answered, “I broke them and they don’t have to be reimbursed by anybody’s life. But if they are broken in your home, who knows how many people will have to die!

Learn How to Do Food Storage Practices to Make Sure You Have Enough Supply in the Future
Posted on June 21st, 2009 in Food and Drink | No Comments »
Food storage is one important aspect of our domestic life. For housewives, discovering the most effective food storage practices will prove to be a great help for the whole family.
Practicing proper food storage is one great way to help ease the negative effects of financial crisis, such as the one being experienced by a lot of people now. By storing food properly, you will be able to stretch your food dollars because you prolong the life of your perishable items through several means. This results to being able to stick to the food budget and saving some money.
Proper food storage is the key to making sure that you are maximizing the value of your food dollars. This is because prolonging your food’s life will save you more money.
Food storage means you have to store or stock up on important food items to ensure you have enough supply in times of great need. By using different ways to store food, you will be able to prepare for a disaster. This is a fairly common practice for households. Even companies use food storage practices to make some money.
However, we are not going to look into how companies use food storage to earn money. We are going to delve into how households benefit from proper food storage practices.
You should know that it is one way of investing on your family’s future. Should there be a time when the family has not enough money to buy food; food stored can be used to sustain everyone even though you can’t buy food items. This will also help you have something to eat in times of extreme disasters, when most stores and food supply are closed and cut off.
Having said all these, you need to make sure that you identify the proper food storage practices to start on investing in your family’s future.
Here are some of the effective food storage practices:
Using shelves as storage – you must maintain the right temperature, which is below 70 F, if you want to use shelves as food storage. You must also make sure that you store your food in a cool, dry place, and away from direct sunlight. This will help prolong your food’s life.
Use air-tight containers – air-tight containers are helpful in making sure that foods retain their crispness, flavor, and texture. This will also keep moisture from spoiling the food, as well as insects and rodents.
Refrigerator storage – this will help keep perishable items “alive” for a longer period of time. When you do this, you need to make sure that food items are either enclosed in air-tight containers, foil, or plastic wraps to keep the nutrients in and moisture out. It would help if you take note of the expiration dates on each item you put in there.
Freezer storage – if you want to extend the life of your food items, storing them in freezers will help a lot. It actually increases your food’s life. Take raw meat as an example. When placed inside the freezer, it can last from 6 to 12 months.
