Relaxing With A Draft Beer
Posted on May 30th, 2009 in Food and Drink | No Comments »
When someone mentions going to a baseball game, many times the first images that come to mind are beer cans and a hot dog. It is somewhat of a tradition to drink beer with certain sports or activities. No backyard football game is complete without having some cold brews in the ice chest.
You get hot and sweaty from the game and cool down with your friends over a few beers. Even watching some sports necessitates having a couple of pints. It does not matter if you prefer a Bud Light over a Canadian beer or German beer. There is just something about a cold, refreshing fermented beer that appeals to most people.
cold beer
Learning to make your own beer at home does require some skill and some knowledge. Homebrewing is very much the same process that manufacturers and professional brewers use all over the world.
Before you even begin, you will need to learn the terminology. You will need to know about the different stages of the brewing process, as well as all of the equipment that you will need.
When it comes to brewing system equipment there are some standard items that breweries use every day. They have large scale operations that allow the hops, barley, rice or wheat to bloom. You should also know that you may not have the capability to use some of the standard equipment, such as a large oak barrel or a keg.
Most home setups operate with limited space. One of the first decisions you will have to make is what type of brew you intend to make. Is it going to be a cold brewed beverage or a warm brewed beverage? The temperature refers to what the final product will be. Most lagers are cold brewed, meaning that the temperature of the beverage is kept at a low temperature throughout the brewing process.
homebrewing
Many people find that it is really easy to get into the brewing process when they purchase a pre-assembled beer making kit. The kit will contain everything needed, with regard to the ingredients that will make the brew. Before you leave the store you will want to read all of the information on the box to ensure that everything you need is in the kit.
If you need additional supplies, such as beer bottles or buckets, then you can check the store to see if they carry these items. If there is no local store that has the supplies, then you can always check Ebay or a specialty website.

The Picnic Backpack For Active Lifestyles – Selection Tips
Posted on May 30th, 2009 in Food and Drink | No Comments »
Outdoor adventures with someone you love or the entire family are made more enjoyable with a picnic backpack. While a basket may be okay for short trips to the park down the street, longer trips will require something that is compact and can be carried without occupying both of your hands.
Depending on who will be doing most of the hauling and the amount of stuff that you want to carry on your trips, you will need to select the appropriate size of pack.
Sizes are generally determined by how many people are going on the picnic. For example, a 2 person backpack is going to be more compact and offer less space for drinks than a 4 person backpack. Don’t let the idea of a backpack fool you because some of these can be quite large and bulky.
If you will be traveling with children or taking them for outdoor experiences, you will likely want to purchase each child their own pack. There are some made specifically for children that are lighter in weight so they are easier to carry. This is absolutely essential for family outings because it will allow the parents to carry more compact, lighter packs as well. It will help your children to be more independent on the trip while lightening the load on your own back.
You also have to consider the arrangement of compartments in each pack. There are different types of slots, such as open spaces to put larger food items, drink holders, and slots for silverware. Make sure that the style and arrangement of these compartments will fit with what you are likely to be packing.
You want one that has enough room to pack the things you want to carry while still being as compact as possible. The value of a backpack is that it can be easily carried along without hassle, so look around and make sure you get one that can comfortably be carried even when filled completely up.
When purchasing a picnic backpack keep in mind the functional capacity of the product more than price. You want something that is going to hold up with consistent use and remain functional for some time to come. If you pick the right size and style chances are you will have many enjoyable outings without the hassle of lugging along a basket by hand.

Is there Really a Difference Between Ginger Beer and Ginger Ale?
Posted on May 28th, 2009 in Food and Drink | No Comments »
Ever since the year 1700, Ginger Beer and Ginger Ale have long been popular beverages enjoyed by many. Both were first brewed during the colonial times and were named “Small Beers”. This name, small beers, came about because these drinks contained about 2 to 10% alcohol content as a result of the fermentation process. These alcohol levels were considered small as compared to the amount that most beers and other liquors contained during those times.
Nowadays, you can only find Ginger Beer and Ginger Ale brands that have alcohol content in other countries. In America, all brands available no longer have any alcohol content to it, since they are now being marketed as a type of soda.
Because of the ginger content in both of these beverages, youll find them often used to help with nausea and sore throats; common medicinal uses for ginger root. Ginger Ale and Ginger Beer are also used as mixers for alcoholic drinks like the famous Dark N Stormy (when mixed with Goslings Black Seal Rum), also known as the Bermuda National Drink or, the Moscow Mule (when mixed with Vodka).
Now, What Is The Difference?
It is very obvious that there are a lot of similarities between Ginger Beer and Ginger Ale, but these two are different kind of sodas. While both have ginger root content in them, the difference lies in the amount used in making these beverages. Ginger Beer has higher ginger root content in it than Ginger Ale, making this drink a spicier version between the two.
Besides the ginger content, other factors that mark the difference between Ginger Beer and Ginger Ale are the levels of its sweetener, carbonation and flavoring content. Ginger Ale is sweeter since it has more sweeteners in it and it also appears less cloudy than Ginger Beer since it has a higher carbonation level. Also, the amount of fruit juice flavorings in these beverages differ. Each soda uses different amounts of lemon, lime or even pineapple.
Besides what has been stated, there is actually no difference in the process of making these two drinks. Since they are now been branded as sodas, most Ginger Beers and Ginger Ales are produced by adding carbonated water and syrups together just like the many other large scale sodas. However, there are still a few independent companies that stays true in making Ginger Beers and Ginger Ales using the old fashioned method of making it in small batches. These smaller companies avoid the usual high fructose syrup and the artificial flavors and colorings that can usually be found in soft drinks.
Ginger Beer and Ginger Ale are the kind of beverages that have numerous flavor profiles. The difference in recipes and tastes of these beverages makes it fun to sample as many as you can. Eventually you will find that one brand that suits your style best.

One way to have the healthiest plants is to make sure that the plants that are planted together don’t hinder each others growth. Basically, were talking about good neighbors or plants form the same plant families.
Unlike some real life families, most plants get along with other plants from the same family. The only exception to this rule is in the tomato family.
The exception is for tomatoes and potatoes, they don’t like each other. Certain family members should have a little space between them and only come together at the holiday dinner table.
Now lets look at some of the plant families:
Plant Family——-Vegetable/Herb
Beet——-Spinach, swiss chard
Buckwheat——-Red orach, rhubarb
Cabbage——-Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, Chinese Cabbage, horse radish, kohlrabi, mustard, pak choi, radish, rutabaga, turnip

Put the bird and whole onions together, in boiling water. Tie the seeds into a muslin bag. Lower the heat and allow the birds to cook until the meat is tender. Once you’ve removed the pigeons along with the muslin bag, mix the hulled grain into the soup and boil for an additional ten minutes. Add chopped fresh tomatoes, a cup of pre-soaked dried and skinned broad fava beans and 1 liters of boiled water, reduce heat and simmer until both the carrots and the beans are cooked. Salt and pepper should be added according to your preferences. Remove from heat and add the juice from two to three lemons. If the person is too weak to chew, the soup may be pureed.

The Leading Cruise Liner, The Best Way To Travel!
Posted on May 24th, 2009 in Food and Drink | No Comments »
I have been on many vacations throughout the globe. I must say that I find The Norwegian Dawn Cruise Liner one of the best ways to travel! Especially if you are located in New York and you are looking for a somewhat inexpensive getaway.
As soon as I set foot on this floating titan I knew I was in for a nice trip. Right from the get go the staff was more than glad to help me with my luggage and any other boarding queries I had. A greeting with service and smile is always a great way to start any vacation. They even refused the tip which was offered to them. (I made them take it! It was heavy luggage.)
Once I was aboard I was taken to my balcony room. The room was big enough and the balcony was quite large. I could already see me spending many a night out on the high seas glaring at the moon shining off the tides way down below.
After the quick informative seminar on what to do if the ship went down. I headed out to admire this beautiful beast. I was fully impressed with everything, from the massive main area with a multi story room to the details of the fine craftsmanship throughout the boat. Not to mention the piano player continuously playing for everyone to hear.
All aboard for all of you art lovers out there! This was a floating museum with some of the most awe-inspiring art I have ever seen. And if you do not know about art they have an onboard class that acquaint you about many of the artists work that was on the ship. From Van Gogh to Monet it was truly amazing.
Then there was the food! I am still trying to keep down the delectable delights that I was eating during the entire trip. I was in their French restaurant eating dinner while there was a Van Gogh besides me, it was truly awesome, plus a huge selection of other types of food can be found all over the boat day and night.
The excursions that you were allowed to go on were great. I was wining and dining in a 5 start restaurant, sipping on wine around priceless artwork by night. During the day I was riding a rollercoaster at Universal Studios. This is truly a trip which is fun for all. I would strongly recommend this vessel for anyone looking for a nice cruise. Whether you are a seasoned cruiser or a newbie, this is a must!
